Who we are

FutureBooks Kids is run by the team behind futurebooks.app. For anything in this policy, write to hello@futurebooks.app.

Who holds the account

Only adults create accounts. When you sign up you confirm that you are 18 or over and the parent or legal guardian of the children who will use the account. You are the account holder and the person who consents on your children's behalf.

Children do not sign up, do not have logins, and do not have passwords. A child profile exists inside your account and cannot be accessed without your session.

What we collect from you

• Your email address, so you can sign in and we can reach you about the account.
• A display name you choose for yourself.
• Your password, stored hashed by our authentication provider. We never see or store the password itself.
• A record of your consent: the date, and which version of these terms you were shown.

What we collect about a child

Deliberately as little as possible, and none of it identifying:

• A nickname you choose. Never shown outside your account.
• An avatar chosen from a fixed set of shapes. Images cannot be uploaded.
• Optionally, an age range — 6–8, 9–11 or 12–14. Never a date of birth.
• Which stories the profile has read and how far through it is.
• Stories the child writes, if you have enabled writing.
• Optionally, a pen name, used only as the byline if a story is ever published. It must not be the child's real name.

We do not collect a child's real name, date of birth, email address, photograph, location, or contacts. These are not fields we choose not to fill in — they do not exist in our system.

Children's writing

A child's story is private by default: visible to that child and to you, and to nobody else. Publishing is never automatic. It requires two separate approvals — first yours, then ours — and our review includes a check for personal information in the text. A published story carries a pen name only, with no link to a profile.

You can turn writing off at any time in your account settings. Doing so stops new stories being written or submitted and does not delete existing ones.

What children cannot do here

Children cannot message anyone, comment, be searched for, follow or be followed, or see that other users exist. The only reaction available is a thumbs-up on a story. Free text from a child exists in exactly one place: their own story, which is private unless it passes both approvals above.

Tracking and advertising

There is no advertising on FutureBooks Kids, and no advertising or behavioural-tracking SDK of any kind. We do not build profiles of children for any purpose and we do not sell or share personal information.

Where the data lives

On servers in the United States, operated by our hosting and database providers. Access is restricted to the people who run the service. Email is sent through a third-party provider solely to deliver account messages to you.

Keeping and deleting it

We keep your account data while the account exists. You can delete the account yourself from your settings; that removes your details, every child profile, and everything those profiles contain, immediately and permanently. You can also delete a single child profile the same way.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict our use of this information, and to withdraw consent. Because you hold the account, you exercise these rights for your children as well as yourself. Write to us and we will help.

The waiting list

If you gave us an email address on the front page before opening an account, we hold that address and use it once, to tell you when the product is ready. We don't sell it or send anything else to it. Email us and we'll remove it.

Changes

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will ask you to read and agree to the new terms the next time you sign in, rather than quietly updating this page. That is why each consent record stores a version number.
